14 Feb 1748 John Chiswell, St. Martin’s parish, Hanover, to Lawrence Small for 110 pounds, 200 acres on branches of Corbin Creek, branch of Rockfish near Blue Mountains, adjoining James Barnett and John Reid; part of patent of 11 and 140 acres of 26 Mar1739.  Witness: Joseph Barnett, Francis Wright, James Robertson.

3 May 1749 Samuel Murrell to William Miller for 3 pounds, 20 acres adjoining a path, Rockfish, opposite a small island, Alexander Patten, William Miller, Jr.  Witness: William Cabell, John Reid, William Maler.

1 Feb 1751 John Thomson to Samuel Mann for 23 pounds, 172 acres both sides Taylor Creek adjoining Archibald Woods, spur of a mountain.  Witness: John Reid, James Barnett, Thomas Man, James Robertson.

11 Feb 1752 John McWhorter to Alexander Patton for 90 pounds, 120 acres bought from James McCanne 10 Sep 1747.  Patented 10 Jul 1745, save 1 acre sold to John Reid, James Robertson, and Samuel Bell for Presbyterian Church of Rockfish – schoolhouse and cemetery.  (This old church and cemetery are still in existence.)

13 Mar 1752 Robert Barnett and wife, Mary, to David Crawford of Hanover, for 130 pounds, 200 acres; part of 400 acres patented to William Mayo 30 Mar 1743; also 211 acres adjoining patent 12 Jan 1746 to Robert Barnett; adjoining William Mayo, Hickman (now John Robinson).  Witness: John Reid, Owen Crawford, John Davis, James Barnett.

9 Jun 1752 John Wade and wife, Mary, to John Green for 8 pounds, 128 acres, branches of Hat Creek near Blue Mountains.  Witness:  Duncan Cameron, John and Thomas Reid.

7 Aug 1758 John Reid to John Loving for 21 pounds, 100 acres Verdiman’s Thoroughfare, adjoining William Wright, Harmer & King Co.  Witness: Matthew Jordan, Samuel Jordan, John Cobbs.

29 Jan 1759 Samuel Bell of Orange N.C. to John Miller, 60 pounds, 260 acres Rockfish near Blue Mountains adjoing grantor; John Small.  Witness: John Reid, Robert Miller, Thomas Miller, Alexander Reid.

9 Aug 1760 Samuel Man, Executor of will of Thomas Man, deceased approbation of Alexander Reid, Executor in trust and Sarah Man, widow of Thomas to John Reid for 43 pounds, 400 acres Rockfish branches adjoining Col. John Chiswell, James Woods, patented to Thomas Man, deceased.  8 Aug 1746.  Witness: David Crawford, Jas. Lackey, James Morrison, Joseph Barnett.

9 Aug 1760 Joseph Barnett to David Reid, Lancaster Co., Penn for 32 pounds, 200 acres Rockfish.  Witness: David Crawford, John Reid, James Lackey, James Morrison.

27 Dec 1760 James Robertson to Rebecca Robertson, widow of James Robertson, deceased for 38 pounds, 265 acres Taylor’s Creek, branch of Rockfish.  Adjoining Matthew Robertson.  Part of patent of John Chiswell, Hanover, and by him deeded to James Robertson.  Gave by will to son, James.  Witness: John Reid, James Barnett, James Small, Theobald Maghan.

7 Mar 1761 William Montgomery, planter, to Matthew Small, weaver, for 6 pounds, 50 acres Rockfish, adjoining John Small, Col. Chiswell.  Witness: John Reid, James Small, John Lackey, Theobald Maighan.

1 Jun 1761  John Reid, James Nevill, John Rose and Joseph Cabell, Amherst County Gentlemen, bound in the sum of one thousand pounds to our Sovereign Lord King, George the Third, 1 Jun 1761.  John Reid has been appointed Sheriff by Governor under seal of Colony on 2 May 1761, and is accountable for all sums of mony and Tobacco by him received.  Court held at Henry Key’s on 1 Jun 1761.  George Seaton, Clerk.

1 Jun 1761 John Reid, James Nevill, and John Rose, Amherst County Gentlemen, bound to our Sovereign Lord King, George the Third, for five hundred pounds,1 Jun 1761.  John Reid was appointed Sheriff for Amherst County by Governor of Colony under seal dated 2 May 1761.  He is hereby bonded to collect all fines, Quitrents, forfeitures, and Americaments and to pay them to His Majesty’s Revenues on or before the second Tuesday in June annually.  Court held at Henry Key’s, 1 Jun 1761.

5 Sep 1761 James Woods to Mary Woods, wife of Samuel Woods.  James Woods for natural love and affection for his daughter, Mary Woods, and for the better maintenance and livelihood of her, conveys to her and lawfully begotten heirs of body 200 acres in Amherst County and negro boy named Adam.  Lines: John Morrison, David Crawford, Jr., John Reid, side of a mountain.  Part of 400 acres to James Woods by “patton” at Williamsburg, 28 Aug 1746.  Mark of Woods.  Witness: Alexander Reid, John Farrer, Peter Farrer, Thomas Reid.

7 Sep 1761 John Reid, William Cabell and James Nevill, Gentlemen of Amherst bound to King George III for one thousand pounds.  Reid’s appointment is set forth as in the two items above and he is bound to collect taxes.  Court held at Henry Key’s on 1 Jun 1761.  George Seaton, Clerk.

27 Feb 1762 Samuel Mann and wife, Margaret, to Nathaniel Mann for 7 pounds for 31 acres on Taylor’s Creek, branch of Rockfish and part of 172 acres granted to Alexander Patton by patent 12 Jan 1746 and now in possession of Samuel Mann.  Lines: Thomas Reid, Alexander Reid, Alexander Reid, Jr, James McAlexander Jr, John Reid.

9 Mar 1762 Hugh Willoughby and wife Agnes, to Charles McAnally for 5 pounds, 100 acres on branch of South Fork of Rockfish and part of 371 acres pat at Williamsburg to Willoughby 7 Aug 1761.  Lines:  James Nevill.  Witness: John Reid, James Nevil, Charles Tate.

17 Jan 1764 John Robinson, King and Queen, to Joseph Barnett, 10 pounds for 120 acres on Corbin’s Creek…part of larger tract pat to Col. John Chiswell and now properly of Robinson.  Lines:  Michael Montgomery, Joseph Barnet, John Small, Francis Meriwether, John Reid.  Witness: George Carrington, Cornelius Thomas, William Cabell, Jr., Joseph Cabell.

2 Jul 1764 Alexander Reid, to Mary Reid…20 pounds for 250 acres, head branches of Corbin’s Creek pat to John Reid bearing date 1755 and since the death of said John Reid descended to the aforesaid Alexander Reid as eldest son and heir at law of him the said John Reid which the said Alexander Reid hath bargained and sold to his sister Mary Reid.

2 Jul 1764 Alexander Reid, to Nathan Reid 50 pounds for 400 acres on a branch of Rockfish.  Lines: Col.Chiswell, James Woods, side of a mountain, formerly granted and “conveyed” from Samuel Mann, executor of Thomas Mann to John Reid by deed of date, 25 Feb 1760, and since death of John Reid descended to Alexander Reid as eldest son and heir at law…hath bargained and sold unto his brother, Nathan Reid.

21 Aug 1765 Mary Reid to Thomas Carpenter for 37 pounds, 270 acres pat to John Reid 25 Mar 1762, head branch of Corbin’s Creek, branch of Rockfish.  Lines: James Barnett.  Witness: Samuel Woods, John Reid, Alexander Reid, Jr.

20 Sep 1765 Andrew Reid Will.  Witness: James and John Reid, John Barnett of Rockfish.  My 6 children:  Martha, Agnes, Florence, Sarah, Andrew and Esther Reid, until Andrew is 21.  If any daughter married or dead before 18.  Executors: friends, Thomas Stuart and Robert Weir.  Bondsman: William Simpson, Samuel Woods, Alexander Reid, Jr, Thomas West.  Inventory 5 Dec 1765: Robert Barnett, John Morrison, John Montgomery

1 Feb 1772  John Heard apprentices himself to George Blain, sadler, 50 pounds for 2 years and 3 months.  Witness: John Reid, Nathan Reid, Alex. Reid, Jr.
