WILLIAM REID (REED) (1800 – aft 1860) was born in Oglethorpe County, Georgia the first son of record of Jacob Reid and Elizabeth (Mary) Staton.
William was raised in Oglethorpe County, Georgia where he married Susannah Hales 1 Apr 1820. For a brief time after their marriage, tax and census records indicate that William and Susannah lived near Jacob in Oglethorpe County. After those early married years, we have had little confirmed success tracking William and Susannah. There are several references to William Reids in subsequent tax and census records, but none that conclusively connect to our William.
It’s possible that William and Susannah had as many as 8 children, and that one of the first children to be born was a Jacob Reid found living in Bibb County, Georgia in 1840 as a young married man. We have tracked Jacob Reid of Bibb County to his death, noting that his descendents include a consistent pattern of the name William and Jacob applied at each successive generation up to the mid 1940s. Interestingly, the majority of those dependents lived in Bibb or Macon County.

We have confirmed through DNA testing that the Reid line through which “our” William Reid descends shares a genetic link to Jacob Christopher Reid of Macon, GA, son of William F Reid and Anna Arcadia Jones Reid, son of Jacob Reid and Nancy Simmons Reid, also of Macon, GA. We have yet to confirm a link between Jacob Reid of Bibb County, GA, born approximately 1820, to our William Reid, but we have strong suspicion due to the DNA results. Any information you are willing to share on your Reid line would be greatly appreciated.
