Elizabeth’s husband John came to Utah in 1854 to prepare a home for his family whom he had left in England. John built a little log home on a piece of land in Ogden, Utah. It was at the time of the “grasshopper plague”. He left Utah and started back to England for his family. John was traveling with another man at this time. When they had gotten as far as St. Joseph, Missouri, grandfather took very ill with either a sunstroke or cholera and died. The man he was traveling with could never tell where grandfather’s property was located in Ogden, and it is believed by the family that he kept it himself.
