- Marriages, Georgia – Read, Reed, Reid
Sometime after 1877 and before 1883 a Bailey Reid married a widowed Mary Acree. I believe it was in Tipton county Tenn. Their child Virginia or Vergie Reid was born in Tenn. I have two dates 1884 and 1883. This lady was my Grandmother and Bailey was my grandfather. I cannot find anything on when they were married or where but believe it was in Drummons,Tenn. Any help would be great. Thanks for any help.
Its Me again, I should never write anything when I am tired or frustrated. With that in mind please note these changes in the last posting. Bailey and Mary were My Great Grand parents. Their child Verginia (Vergie) was my Grandmother. The census of 1900 indicates that Bailey was born in Georgia so maybe he is part of this family.
Thanks
George
Hi Chad. Thank you for your reply to my questions. Vergie married Horace Allen Hill sometime between 1900 and 1903 or 4. This based on the fact that they had three children. Le Roy, Robert, and Mary. My mother is Mary Emma Hill. She was born in 1910 and the two brothers before that. Vergia is listed on a census form as living with her Half brother and sisters in Drummons Tn. in June of 1900, she was 19 years old at that time. Horace Hill is listed on the same form as a boarder in the right above the Acree/Reid home and that is the last I have found on Him until He dies in Feb. 1937. Vergie died 4 days later. My mother said that Vergie simply grieved herself to death. They were living in Memphis at that time. Horace died from pulmonary disease. They lived in Richardsons Landing, a steamboat port on the Mississippi river about 7 miles from Drummons. Horace operated a General Store and a cotton gin untill the oldest son was ready for High school when they moved to Memphis. Horace and Vergie are buried in the popular Grove cemetery in Drummons Tn. LeRoy,Robert and Mary have all died. I had a brother “Cecil” now dead,a sister who lives in Palm Desert,Ca. and I live in Santa Clarita,Ca. Cecil had three children, my sister Virgina has two and I have two. That is about where I stand but am still looking for information about Horace and Vergie.
