23 Sep 1765 (Bedford: Campbell was formed 1782) James Calloway to Amos Thorp on Blackwater Creek near Buck mountain. No amount listed. No witnesses.
15 Feb 1784 Joseph Anthony of Henry County, and Elizabeth, his wife, to John Clark. Said Joseph Anthony executed a deed to John Clark for 550 acres which was in the course of last year, and recorded and by which it was designed to convey the lands hereinafter described. But a course or courses of the lines being omitted, it is judged necessary by another conveyance to supply that omission. Now this deed therefore witnesses that said Joseph Anthony and Elizabeth, his wife, for 400 pounds, sell to John Clark, all that tract of land patented to said Joseph Anthony by Mary Read, the north side of Otter River Road, Clement. 20 May 1784 William Mead and Martha, his wife, of the county of Bedford, to William Harris of same, for 300 pounds, 4 lots of land in the Town on New London, denoted in a plan of the town by the figures # 5, 6, 8 and 45. Lots 5, 6 and 8 contain 0.5 acres each and lot 45 contains 5 acres.
28 Apr 1784 James Gatewood of Bedford to William Scott for 2000 pounds, one certain tract of about 1150 acres of land on both sides of James River in the Counties of Amherst, Bedford, and Campbell, bounded by Davis, Trent’s Ferry, William Martin, John Thurmas, Christopher Lynch, John Lynch, Staten, Charles Runael, William Lee, William Goodwin, George Goodwin. 5 Apr 1785 Moses Powell and Hannah Powell to Rhubin Simmonds (Simmons) for 50 pounds, one certain tract of land of about 184 acres, it being part of the land formerly patented to Daniel Read. 2 Jun 1791 We, William Harris, Administrator and co-heir of Francis Thorp, dec’d and Nathan Reid, Thomas Crump and William Vannerson, co-heirs of said Francis Thorp that have arrived at full age, for 5 shillings, sell to William Jones and Elizabeth, his wife, late widow and relict of the said Francis Thorp, and for a full releasement and acquittal of all manner of right to dower both of lands and Negroes which by law said Elizabeth is entitled to of the estate of said Thorp, we, the aforesaid co-heirs, for ourselves and for Thomas, William, Nancy, Polly, and Kitty Thorp, co-heirs under age 21 years, being children of the said Francis Thorp, have sold to said William Jones and Elizabeth, his wife, the following Negro slaves: Nan and her 4 children (Sam, Jude, Sucky, and James), a Negro boy named Jerry, and a Negro girl named Sall. If any of the underage children shall arrive of age and object to this contract, said contract shall be void. If either Jones or his wife shall at any time hereafter be ousted or molested in the possession of the slaves, then Jones and wife may lay off, possess, and enjoy one equal third part of the lands and slaves whereof said Thorp died possessed, in the same manner as they would have if this contract had never been executed. 6 Jan 1792 James Gray to Jones Read, of Bedford County for 400 pounds, all that tract of land whereon said James Gray formerly lived, it being the tract of land purchased by said James Gray of John Turmon, situated in Campbell, containing about 314 acres, and bounded by the north fork of Pidgeon branch, Lynch’s line near McBrights branch. This deed was proved by the oath of Samuel Read and William Brown, and by the solemn affirmation of William Davis.
15 May 1793 Benjamin Arthur to Christopher Clark, for 55 pounds with interest from 25 Dec 1791 which Arthur owes Andrew Donald and wants to secure to him, for 5 shillings paid by Clark to Arthur, Arthur grants Clark one equal and undivided half of the lands and plantation whereon said Arthur lately lived, being 2 tracts, one conveyed to said Arthur by deed from William Arthur, “and the other to him by patent”. The 2 tracts adjoin each other and contain about 400 acres on Flatt Creek, bounded by the land at present possessed by Ann, widow of William Arthur, deceased, by the lands belonging to Peter Claywell, John Robertson, Christopher Irvine, “and others”, which half is to be laid off by said Arthur by 1 straight dividing line, as soon as said Clark requests, and the dividing line is to be run such that the dwelling house lately occupied by said Arthur, together with the yard, garden, outhouses, and the spring of water nearest the dwelling house may all be contained in the same half. If Arthur does not, within 10 days after being requested by Clark, lay off and run the dividing line, Clark may have the same done by the County Surveyor at the expense of Arthur, and may take possession of the half of the 2 tracts on which the dwelling house is situated. Clark, after next Jan 1, after giving at least 10 days’ notice in any newspaper published in Richmond, may sell the said land to discharge the debt plus interest plus expenses plus any taxes which may be due on the land, and the remaining money, if any, to be paid to Arthur.
