GEORGE WASHINGTON BAILEY REID (15 Nov 1879 – 10 Nov 1905) was born in Armuchee, Floyd County, Georgia the son of Marcus D Lafayette Reid and Nancy Elizabeth Duke.
George lived with his family in Armuchee, Floyd County, Georgia until November 1885 when they moved to Kaysville, Davis County, Utah.
George married Martha Louise Child on 11 November 1898 in Kaysville, Davis County, Utah by Kaysville City Mayor, Mr. Barnes, witnessed by George Fletcher Pattillo, former husband of Ellen Reid Pattillo, George’s half-sister. They lived for a time in Clinton, Davis County, Utah where George and brother Charles Morgan Reid purchased a 40-acre farm.
George and Martha Louise had three children of record, all born in Davis County, Utah:
- Zebellia Blanche S. Reid (11 Sep 1899 – 13 Mar 1900)
- Mable Jane Reid (8 Aug 1901 – 30 Aug 1943). Mable married Francis Gailey 23 July 1918.
- Ralph Frisbee Reid (17 Jul 1904 – 3 Sep 1955). Ralph married Eva Pearl Judd 18 Feb 1924 in Riverside California. Ralph and Eva later divorced and Ralph married Margaret H Lewis in 1928.
George began to suffer from throat cancer in his early 20’s. The disease was so debilitating that he considered traveling to Minnesota for treatment. He finally died from the effects of the disease on 12 Nov 1905 at his home in Clinton, just five days prior to his 26th birthday. George is buried in the Ogden City Cemetery, Ogden, Weber, Utah.
After George’s death, Martha Louise married Charles Edward Evans. They had 7 children of record before Charles died. Martha later married Arnold Abram Baker. She died at age 68 on 29 Dec 1952 in Los Angeles, California.
